Why is a Mastiff puppy so expensive??
Below you will find a sample of the costs it requires to do a good breeding from a reputable breeder. Not only is the breeder (Glacier Mastiffs) spending countless hours researching for good quality dogs to bring into their breeding program but also educating the public and future puppy buyers of any upcoming litters as well as promoting and educating the public on the breed itself.
A reputable breeder is one that health tests their dogs, actually knows the breed standard for that breed of dog and can tell you the faults they are wanting to improve upon, breeds for the improvement or maintenance of that particular breed according to the standard set forth by the American Kennel Club, breeds dogs that are healthy and are of appropriate age to breed (after 22 months), sends their puppies out on a contract for either show quality or on limited registration, will take back a puppy that is sold in the event of circumstances that cannot be worked out between seller and new owner, and is there as a support for new owner for the life of the puppy. A reputable breeder also cares about where their puppies go by carefully screening puppy buyers
